Sound Provider LVT Deploys Martin Audio To Deliver Coverage For Eight-Day Festival In Portugal

MLA Compact and Mini arrays for sound reinforcement at Noites de Verao em Gaia (Gaia Summer Nights) festival at Municipal Stadium of Lavandeira in Porto (Portugal) in late summer.

In April of last year Portugal-based rental company LVT Audio invested heavily in Martin Audio MLA Compact and Mini arrays, with the sound company’s most recent deployment of the new gear at the recent Noites de Verao em Gaia (Gaia Summer Nights), an eight-day festival promoted by PEV Entertainment that took place at the Municipal Stadium of Lavandeira in the Gaia district of Porto (Portugal) in late summer.

“It was the first live event held in Portugal in the middle of a pandemic,” explains LVT director Miguel Lindo. “All security measures were taken by the local authorities and by the event’s producer, and these socially distanced shows served as an example for others.”

The festival line-up featured top national artists and was capped at 2,000 spectators each day, with a performance roster that included Xutos & Pontápés; Miguel Araujo; Mariza; Pedro Abrunhosa; Herman José; Ana Moura and many others.

To deliver sound reinforcement, LVT system tech António Costa specified 14 MLA Compact in each of two main hangs along with 16 DSX subwoofers. Near fills were comprised a further four MLA Compact, while on the stage, a dozen Martin Audio LE1500 wedges were provided for artist reference monitoring, with side fills of four Martin Audio W8C and four WS218X subs. The sound was processed and optimized by Costa utilizing Martin Audio’s proprietary DISPLAY software.

LVT Audio will next provide the full rig at Portugal ao Vivo (Portugal Live)—a celebration of Portuguese national music at the Super Bock Arena in Porto, during November and December. This will feature 24 artists. That system will be comprised of 36 of the company’s 40 MLA Compact elements in two hangs of 18, with 16 MLA DSX subs in a broadside cardioid sub array. Out fills will be provided by 24 MLA Mini, in two hangs of 12, with six MSX subs adding near fill, and a further four MLA Compact as side fills. Four W8C and four WS218X subs will again provide stage fills.

“MLA has helped to change the face of live entertainment in Portugal and improve the acoustics of theaters and arenas,” Lindo concludes. “Since we have been running MLA in our hire fleet we have experienced an unparalleled improvement in the sound quality of our services. MLA is without a doubt the best system in the world, and puts us at the very highest level.”
