Sound Devices has announced the release of the new SL-2 Dual SuperSlot wireless module, the first model of a range of SuperSlot-based accessories designed to bring integrated multichannel wireless to the company’s 8-Series mixer/recorders.

The two slot-in wireless receiver is designed to mount to the top panel of any 8-Series unit. It accepts UniSlot and SuperSlot™wireless receivers from a variety of manufacturers, including Audio Ltd, Lectrosonics, Wisycom, and Sennheiser. The SuperSlot protocol supports up to four channels of wireless audio per slot.

An 8-Series mixer-recorder supplies power to the SL-2 and slotted-in receivers, so no external DC connector is needed. Analog or digital audio is sent from the receivers into the mixer-recorder via the expansion port, reducing cabling needs for power and audio connectivity.

The SL-2 offers antenna distribution to slot-in receivers, spreading out the placement of antennas to help optimize RF performance. The rear panel of the SL-2 is equipped with two TA3 connectors for an additional four inputs of AES3 audio and two 4-pin Hirose DC Outputs, each supplying up to 500 mA for powering additional equipment.

Firmware v6.00, available now from the Sound Devices website, is required to operate the SL-2. In addition to supporting the SL-2, version 6.00 introduces RF history for supported SuperSlot receivers mounted in an SL-2 or SL-6. The duration of the RF history is adjustable in 10 second increments, from 30 to 600 seconds. Other enhancements have also been added.

8-Series users can upgrade to v6.00 by visiting the Sound Devices Downloads Page.
