Sonnox has released the Oxford Drum Gate, a new plugin designed for the acoustic drum production space, intended to help solve problems encountered when using traditional tools to gate drums, including chatter, mis-detection, choked and lost ghost notes, and more.

There are four aspects to the new plugin, including:

— Intelligent drum-hit detection. All hits are analyzed in real-time using tailor-made transient detection. From there, users decide which hits on which drums to keep.

For example, in order to reduce spill on a snare track in a dynamic mix of backbeats, ghost notes, and cross stick hits, the Snare button is clicked. Everything else is gated out.

— Adaptive decay section. Many struggle with the abrupt and un-musical gating of toms, wanting instead to keep their natural ring while at the same time remove the spill around them.

The decay section is designed to allow for the quick control each tom’s resonance in real-time and according to the velocity of each detected hit.

— Leveller section. Enables louder main hits and softer background articulations to be conformed to two separately controlled target level ranges, in order to improve the dynamic consistency of a performance.

— Hit detection and MIDI triggering functionality. Designed to allow users to augment/replace individual drums with samples and retain the dynamics of an original performance.

The Oxford Drum Gate launches at an introductory retail price of £127.50/$183.00, $172.00 MAP. This 25 percent discount will last until midnight (GMT) on Wednesday December 4, 2019, after which it’ll revert to its full retail price of £170.00/$244.80, $230.00 MAP.
