In Episode 18, co-hosts Michael Lawrence and Chris Leonard answer a listener’s question about Spill Groups and then talk with production sound mixer Tod Maitland, a 3-time Academy Award nominee who comes from a family of film sound mixers and is a pioneer in the use of EQ and wireless microphones in recording for film. They go in-depth about capturing dialogue versus ambient sound as well as discussing movies Tod’s worked on, such as the recently released “Joker” as well as “The Greatest Showman,” the upcoming “West Side Story,” and many others. (Read more about Tod’s dynamic career here.)

Tod also talks about the Shure Axient Digital wireless microphone system and how well it works in tough RF environments like New York City, and especially in applications requiring miniscule beltpack transmitters.
