Sierra Video Introduces The MADI Converter & Routing Switcher

The SierraView MADI-xx offers a window into the MADI signal for demanding audio applications.

Sierra Video has announced the introduction of the MADI-xx to its line of SierraView products.

The SierraView MADI-xx is a 128 x 128 channel MADI routing switcher with integral multi-channel audio metering and signal fault alarms for up to 128 channels.

The MADI-xx allows users to monitor and interact with each audio signal within two 64-channel MADI feeds.

The unit is designed for live sound, theaters, radio and TV, where MADI signals are increasingly employed, and has proven to be ideal in mobile production applications.

The MADI-xx offers MADI connectivity and routing, signal conversion, industry-standard metering and full alarms functionality in a 1RU frame.

The unit has proved especially useful in allowing mobile production units that rely heavily on MADI feeds to directly monitor individual audio channels within the incoming MADI feed.

The unit can interface with MADI signals fed by either coaxial or fiber optic cables. The MADI-xx also allows conversion of channels from MADI to analog and/or digital signals.

With the 128 x 128 routing functionality, any input on the MADI-xx can be switched to any output, regardless of location in the cable feed. Optional external 32 channel audio I/O interface cards allow the matrix to be expanded up to 128×192, 192×128, or 160×160.

Sources can be named with up to 16 alpha-numeric characters. The unit can be configured using an on-screen menu, and a keyboard port is available for assigning custom labels.

The unit is equipped with a DVI-I graphical output for audio metering and for the system menu. The MADI-xx displays DIN PPM, BBC PPM, NORDIC PPM, VU, VU EXTENDED, AES/EBU scale types, each with their own ballistics, range colors, break points and level reference.

On-screen bargraphs can be grouped according to signal type, or they can be manually assigned to sources regardless of the signal format. The MADI-xx has per-channel alarms for audio carrier loss, over and under level and anti-phase issues.

It also offers a phase bar that can be assigned to any channel pair. An audible monitor output card is optional, allowing monitoring of up to four analog and digital pairs from any source. The MADI-xx allows up to four audio channel pairs to be streamed via TCP/IP.

SOFT-xx companion software is available for graphic interface control, source/bar labeling, monitoring and configuration scheduling when using multiple MADI-xx units connected on a LAN.

Dedicated hardware monitoring units are also available in the SierraView family as are audio I/O breakout cables to XLR/BNC.
