The 2019 NAMM Show recently wrapped up at the Anaheim Convention Center with a strong focus on innovation. New products, techniques, education and problems-solvers from every corner of the pro audio industry turned out in force, with an abundance of live music providing a soundtrack for the experience.
The 2019 edition provided new product introductions, business opportunities, networking and fresh inspiration from over 400 educational sessions for 115,301 registered industry professionals. By the numbers, the show featured 2,000 exhibiting member companies representing 7,000 brands with an increase of 14 percent in international participants.
I made my first trip to a NAMM show in 2005 and of all I’ve witnessed, this one was different. The crowd and business was similar to previous trade show experiences I’ve encountered, but the general attitude towards supporting the working tech felt encouraging.
Trade shows can easily become an overwhelming experience with prospective customers herded like cattle from one sales pitch to another. For this year’s event, I searched intentionally for ways the manufacturers were stepping up their game to provide working techs with actual problem-solvers and not just wallet-lighteners.
As my journey through the crowds took me from booth to booth, one vendor after another presented me with products designed to solve problems and improve the user experience. Many seemed to offer a stronger focus on the end-user and less on the products themselves.
Something else new for 2019 was the Loudspeaker Demo in the arena, hosted by Live Sound International. Throughout the show attendees were introduced to one loudspeaker system after another in a controlled environment. As seen in the video above (compliments of DcSoundOp) the turnout and response was exceptional.
