RCF Releases New RDNet 2.2 Control & Management Software

Well over a dozen upgrades to proprietary protocol for monitoring and controlling the company's loudspeakers

RDNet, a proprietary protocol for RCF loudspeakers, is now available in version 2.2. The software makes it possible to monitor all system parameters from the input to the status of every amplifier and transducer module in the cabinets.

With DSP onboard each loudspeaker, it’s possible to address single cabinets or groups of cabinets with specific presets or modifications of parameters like gain, equalization or delay.

The RDNet protocol is based on RS-485 communication protocol, and sends and receives data via Cat-5 or XLR cable.

New RDNet version 2.2 highlights include:

—Redesigned offline and online operating mode for a safe system administration

—Revised mute management logic rules

—Improved RDNet protocol communication and error correction

—Logic ID support for a “faulty device tolerant” network operation

—New Control 8 firmware release. With this release objects registering has been improved, with higher reliability compared previous releases (objects registration is much faster and safer due to the implementation of separated threads for each sub-network)

—Additional multi-controller support: up to 20 concurrent Control 8 interfaces allowed to get up to 160 RDNet ports

—Faster “multicast” commands introduced for better control of large systems

—Concert mode password added

—New bypass override flag management. The bypass override function, masked for touring or live applications, is easily activated for installations.

—Ethernet port to be connected is now selectable

—New monitoring features added for safety and evacuation systems

—“Object status retrieve” command added

—Support to the last generation of RCF loudspeakers (TT1, TT2, TT5 e TTP5)

—Elliptic, Bessel and Linkwitz-Riley filter types in user EQ

—Gain range in user equalization improved, now ranges from -90 dB to +10 dB

—Phase curve added to equalization curve. Visualization enabled/disabled by a specific button

In addition, major firmware updates for several loudspeakers have been developed to offer:

— Improved impulse and phase response

— Advanced bass response alignment

—Innovative dynamics processing algorithms

—Improved noise floor

—Increased SPL output on specific loudspeaker models

RCF offers two hardware devices for interface between PC and system. The RDNet Control 2 is a two-channel unit that controls up to 64 devices, while the RDNet Control 8 is an eight-channel model that controls up to 256 devices in its subnet.

RDNet is available in the RCF TT+ Theater and Touring Series, as well as the new HDL50-A large format line array.
