Neutrik USA Announces Updates To Multimedia Connector Line

Ruggedized versions of consumer-oriented connectors designed for professional and commercial use

Neutrik USA has announced updates and improvements to its line of multimedia chassis connectors and cable assemblies.

Chassis connectors—all of which fit into the ubiquitous Neutrik D size cutout—are now available for HDMI 1.x, USB 2.0 (with selectable screen-to-chassis grounding and reversible A-to-B inserts), FireWire 400, and D-Sub (9- and 15-pin) connectors.

These chassis connectors are available in nickel or black finish. Neutrik’s multimedia chassis connectors are all feedthrough designs, making integration literally a snap.

For HDMI 1.x and USB 2.0, Neutrik offers pre-terminated cable assemblies designed to mate with these chassis connectors. Rugged outer shells (cable carriers) on these cable assemblies provide IP65 water and dust ingress protection when mated to the Neutrik chassis connectors.

Additionally, because the outer shells perform the alignment, rather than the HDMI or USB connectors themselves, mating cycles are dramatically increased.

The outer shells of Neutrik’s HDMI and USB cable assemblies are removable. This allows, for instance, an AV specialist to patch the ruggedized end into a rack panel while plugging a standard HDMI or USB connector into a typical port as found on a computer, projector, television, or the like.

Neutrik offers pre-terminated cable assemblies in standard lengths (1 meter, 3 meter, 5 meter, etc.). HDMI cable assemblies are 1.3A compliant. USB cable assemblies are available in A-to-B or A-to-A configurations. Recent upgrades to these cable assemblies include additional lengths and a new, black cable carrier with improved aesthetics, tactile feel, and mating operation.

While perhaps not as popular as the HDMI and USB formats, Neutrik also supports legacy formats, including FireWire 400 and D-Sub connectors for analog video.

Peter Milbery, president of Neutrik USA, states, “The challenge of integrating consumer-based connectivity into professional products is ongoing. If anything, the trend towards BYOD (Bring your own device) makes integration even trickier and the need for ruggedization even more pressing. Neutrik’s offerings can help tremendously, offering rack-panel solutions and in many cases mating cable carriers that can considerably extend the usability and mating cycles of these consumer-based connectors.

“With the upgraded HDMI and USB products, integrators will find these connectors and assemblies to be invaluable, offering an unsurpassed level of secure, protected, and robust performance. Additionally, Neutrik supports the fading FireWire 400 and D-Sub analog video standards with our usual high quality and attention to detail.”
