Bremen Teater, a 650-seat live performance venue in central Copenhagen, Denmark, recently upgraded its sound reinforcement system in a project headed by the installation of a new Midas HD96-24 console at front of house.
Bremen Teater hosts events and productions that include the popular TV2 shows “Live Fra Bremen” and “ALOHA!” as well as award shows. In 2012, the venue expanded its offerings with the addition of Natbar, an acclaimed lounge that remains in place to this day. Given its eclectic schedule and the necessity to accommodate guest productions with unique lighting and sound configurations, Bremen Teater faced significant audio challenges.
The theatre collaborated with Matrix Sales, led by Claus Pederson, and the venue’s chief engineer Mikael Flensborg, to design a system that could integrate within the existing infrastructure. The HD96-24-CC console is accompanied by DL251 and DL155 stage boxes as well as an AS 80 HMAC to dual HMAC converter and a Klark Teknik DN9680 multichannel AES50 extender.
The initial transition to the HD96 console brought some concerns about workflow changes, with Flensborg explaining, “We used to have a lot of faders on our old setup, so my main concern when switching over to HD96 was that I would miss these. But with the POP groups being so easy to setup and access, this is not the case. Admittedly there was a learning curve regarding workflow, being a new design and all, but it started making sense quickly.
“The processing possibilities seem to cater for all kind of mix philosophies, which makes the desk very versatile. I’ve seen and heard my engineers’ running shows in very different manners and approaches, and although there are many roads, they all seem to find a path to the same destination: great sound,” he concludes.
