Meyer Sound’s summer webinar program will wrap with a final “Festival Friday” round able session featuring the decades-long sonic explorations of Meyer Sound with the Grateful Dead and their related bands.

The roundtable will include special guest Derek Featherstone, UltraSound CEO and FOH mixing engineer for Dead and Company joined by Meyer Sound president & CEO John Meyer and Bob McCarthy Meyer Sound director of system optimization.

The Friday, August 7 webinar will explore the long trip with the Grateful Dead going back to the infamous “Wall of Sound” days, and the related iterations of the band since the passing of founding member and lead guitarist Jerry Garcia 25 years ago.

“The Grateful Dead were live sound pioneers and John Meyer’s involvement goes back to the Wall of Sound era, even before Meyer Sound was formed,” says McCarthy. “The Dead and the dedicated engineers at UltraSound provided a continuous living lab for us and we pushed the boundaries together, leading to many innovations. The Dead and UltraSound are very much part of our DNA.”

The Grateful Dead toured with Meyer Sound for many years. After band leader Jerry Garcia’s passing in 1995, the various iterations of the founding members, including Dead and Company, also tour with Meyer Sound systems.

The informal roundtable format will offer discussion of innovations and anecdotes from over the years. The participants will welcome questions from those watching the livestream in the Meyer Sound Users Community Facebook group.

The Grateful Dead community celebrates the life and music of Garcia during the “Days Between” his birthdate of August 1, 1942, and his passing on August 9, 1995, with a series of special events and livestreams to benefit the Grateful Dead’s Rex Foundation. Find the schedule here.

This special Meyer Sound round table concludes the summer webinar season. “We launched our daily webinar program in March and now have a robust catalogue of more than 75 webinars archived on our YouTube page and website,” says Meyer Sound senior technical support & education specialist Merlijn van Veen. “We will take a break for a few weeks before returning with a new format in September.”
