What Is Leq?

Leq stands for equivalent continuous sound level. The metric represents the static sound level over a specified duration that delivers the same total sound energy as the measured fluctuating sound level over the same time frame.

Leq can use A- or C-weighting, where it is denoted as LAeq and LCeq, respectively. The Leq time frame can be defined over any period and can be specified within the metric’s abbreviation, for example, LAeq,15min is the A-weighted equivalent continuous sound level over a 15-minute period.
