LAVOCE Italiana has announced the official launch of the DN14.30TK, a new 1.4-inch-exit neodymium compression driver designed to provide smooth extended frequency response to 20 kHz with low distortion. It’s the newest member of the company’s Next Generation series of high-frequency drivers.
Equipped with an edgewound copper-clad aluminum voice coil, the DN14.30TK has a stated 110-watt AES power rating and 108 dB sensitivity. Closely following the next-generation design ethos of its bigger brother, the DN14.300T, it employs the same phase plug but in a slightly more compact product footprint (120 mm diameter) with a hybrid titanium diaphragm joined by a polyimide surround.
The company states that compared to a one-piece titanium diaphragm and surround, the hybrid titanium/polyimide diaphragm assembly of the DN14.30TK offers a lower resonant frequency (Fs) due to the softer surround material. This design is intended to enhance the low-frequency performance around the recommended crossover point — 1.2 kHz — which can help simplify the crossover design and improve the quality of vocal reproduction.
The DN14.30TK also employs LAVOCE’s patented Integral Input Surface (IIS) phase plug technology that incorporates a smooth, one-piece, input surface for the dome that’s designed to reduce the risk of misalignment issues in the critical high-pressure area. Together with an improved assembly topology, this technology helps ensure production batches are fully compliant with performance requirements and maintain consistency in the field.
As with all LAVOCE next-generation high-frequency devices, the DN14.30TK has been designed and optimized by the R&D team using their own proprietary FEA software applications that’s designed to help produce an accurate device with low distortion and a linear frequency response in delivering consistent performance.
