India’s Christ University Renovates With JBL VTX Arrays

Acoustic Control announces renovations to the Christ University Auditorium in Bangalore, Karnataka, India with JBL VTX 25-II arrays.

Founded in 1969, Christ University is managed by the priests of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the first indigenous Syrian Catholic religious congregation in India. With over 16,000 students and more than 1000 faculty members, it is one of the top ranked universities in the country. It has a foreign student community of over 2500 and It was rated an A+ institution by the NAAC.

The Christ University Auditorium with a seating capacity of 2000 is utilized by many prominent Multinational corporations for their events including Accenture, Infosys, Honeywell, Fidelity, Dell, 3M to name a few.

The Auditorium has also played host to prominent personality including the Dalai Lama, the Chief Justice of India, the Chief minister of Karnataka, and hosted Concerts by Richard Clayderman, Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, S.P. Balasubramanayam , Shreya Ghoshal ,Percussionist Shivamani & Martin Smith to name a few.

When Acoustic Control Installed the first line array loudspeaker system in India it was at this same auditorium in 2006. Subsequently Acoustic Control was commissioned to update the installation in 2010 and a JBL Vertec 4889 system was selected.

“When Christ University once again decided to up the ante it was not a difficult decision in choosing the JBL VTX25, as when we read the technical specifications and subsequently heard the system we knew we had to install the VTX system in a showcase venue and where better than at Christ Universities auditorium that till date boasts many firsts. The first line array loudspeaker Install in India in 2006 and the first JBL Vertec 4889 installation in 2010” – Sanjay Mudartha, director Acoustic Control.

The system comprises 2 hangs of 8 JBL VTX 25-II line array cabinets and 4 x JBL G 28 subwoofers under the stage. The System includes JBLVRX932’s and VRX 928’s used as fills. The entire system is amplified using Crown IT HD amplifiers and is monitored and maintained with a computer running Performance Manager 2.0. The system was modeled and mapped in EASE to ensure optimum coverage.

Also part of the upgrade was the addition of a Soundcraft Impact Digital console and a matching Soundcraft Stage box.

“The upgraded system definitely sounds a lot smoother and is more transparent. The VTX 25’s put out a lot more SPL, hence we have a lot more headroom now and are extremely happy with the way in which Acoustic Control has implemented and tuned the system. It just keeps getting better.” Rajan- sound engineer- Christ University.

“One of the biggest hurdles that we faced is that the Christ University auditorium is in such great demand that we had to upgrade the system, change Cabling and power distribution and have it back online in under two days to meet the hectic schedule of events.” Mudartha.

The installation also includes an extensive Martin Intelligent Lighting system, LSC Dimmers, Jem hazers all controlled by a LSC maxim XXLP. The Video system comprises two BARCO projectors one a 30,000 lumens unit and the second a 10,000 lumens unit with EXTRON switching and Video transport all of which were designed and installed by Acoustic Control.
