To celebrate his 800th post on his website, Joe Gilder is kicking off a series of 46 new videos for the month of July.
Why 46? The month of July has 23 weekdays, so Joe is committing to two videos each of those days—one in the morning and the other in the evening.
“Frankly, I just want to do MORE,” he notes. “The more stuff I put out there, the more chances I get to help people.”
To kick things off, he’s doing a series on one of his absolute favorite topics, and something that must make your mantra in your studio: Get it right at the source.
In the first video, Joe notes that rather than rushing to be creative in the studio, it all starts with the song. There’s no point to the mix unless it rests upon a a solid, viable (or better) music. There’s room for creativity in working with the track, of course, but there has to be a good basis to start with.
In the second video, he moves on to a related topic—the arrangement (sometimes called pre-production) of the material. What possibilities exist to enhance the structure of the song? They should be considered and laid out ahead of time to help ease the process and lead to reaching full potential.
