Long-time audio professional, educator and friend Douglas Lee “Doug” Fowler of St. Louis, MO passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the age of 67.

Known to scores of veteran and fledgling members of the pro audio community for his innovative mind, exceptional tech skills, generous sharing of knowledge and sense of humor, he also long served as a key member and moderator of the Live Audio Board (LAB) on ProSoundWeb. (Go here to read the many wonderful comments about Doug from the LAB community.)

Doug was born February 10, 1955 in Poplar Bluff, MO to the late Miles Leon and Martha Frances Griffin Fowler, graduating from Poplar Bluff High School in 1973. He proudly and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal Marine and Field Radio Operator at Camp Lejeune and a Radio Chief for Embassy Evacuation Team Mediterranean at 34th Marine Amphibious Unit in Italy. He went on to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University in 1985 with two degrees, including Bachelor of General Studies and Bachelor of Science.

Doug was the proud owner of St. Louis, MO-based Fowler Audio Service, where he provided concert sound engineering for Ultra Music Festivals as well as touring artists that included B.B. King. He joined the audio team for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in 2015, and in 2016 opened “Thurman’s in Shaw,” which featured live performances by local St. Louis jazz artists.

He loved traveling, especially to Amsterdam and backpacking around Europe, and he played bass in the band “Swinging Love Corpses” with his friends. Doug is survived by sister Janet Fowler and niece Brittany Axelson, both of Dexter, MO, many cousins, many friends, former spouse Gail Fowler, and his beloved cat Buddy.

A memorial service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis on Thursday, October 13 beginning at 11:30 Central time, and donations in Doug’s name to Toys for Tots can be made via this link.
