In Episode 3 of Signal To Noise podcast host Chris Leonard’s new series How We Got Loud, focusing on the evolution of modern sound reinforcement, he talks with veteran mix engineer Jim Yakabuski (a.k.a., Jim Yak) about building a successful career.
Jim made his way from mixing bar bands in Vancouver to front of house for Van Halen during the height of the band’s touring popularity in the 1990s. Now in his 39th year as an audio professional, he continues to strive diligently toward perfecting the craft in working with top artists such as Peter Frampton, Journey, Avril Lavigne, Matchbox Twenty, Rob Thomas, Gwen Stefani and many more. He also has more than 20 years freelance corporate work for clients that include Nike, Microsoft, Walmart, the NBA and the Super Bowl, and with production companies such as ATK, OSA, Creative Technologies, PRG, LMG, and others.
On top of all that, Jim’s also served as a sound tech and mixer in the house of worship market, has founded The MIX Institute educational/training program, is a top contributing author to Live Sound International, Church Sound magazine and ProSoundWeb, and more.
