Memorial Day Weekend saw the opening of the all-new dual outdoor pool venue DAYLIGHT/ECLIPSE at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, featuring a sound reinforcement system based upon loudspeakers from Fulcrum Acoustics.

The 52,000 square foot club owned by The Light Group, Cirque Du Soleil, and MGM Resorts International boasts the first 24/7 outdoor pool experience in Las Vegas.

The space, which features a full performance stage, provided a unique set of audio challenges. The system, designed and installed by John Lyons Systems of Hollywood, overcame these obstacles by utilizing an assortment of Fulcrum Acoustic loudspeakers.

The venue offers Las Vegas visitors the first concert-level audio visual experience in an completely outdoor setting. During the day it is DAYLIGHT, a rollicking beach party while at night it turns into ECLIPSE, Vegas’ first full nocturnal pool party.

The requirements of the outdoor system were to create a high-quality audio environment that would meet the needs of both the performers and patrons of the club while also being capable of withstanding Las Vegas weather. If that wasn’t enough, it was important that the system not infringe on other near-by hotel guests—the audio needed to be contained to the beach club space.

By utilizing more than 50 Fulcrum Acoustic Prophile S loudspeakers, the team at John Lyons Systems was able to create a high fidelity sound field which provided nightclub quality sound to pool visitors.

Multiple near-field speakers blanket the venue with sound while minimizing audio bleed outside the club’s confines.

The main performance stage features left-right loudspeaker clusters comprised of Fulcrum’s AH65 loudspeakers. The enclosures were hung with a sharp downward angle to focus the sound on the dance floor further reducing audio intrusion into hotel rooms.

To battle the harsh conditions of the Las Vegas desert, Fulcrum Acoustic weatherproofed all of the loudspeakers installed in the outdoor beach club. The smaller Prophile S speakers were created using a proprietary sheet-plastic material instead of wood, while the larger models included a fiberglass shield on the outside of the cabinet.

Lastly, all of the speakers were coated with a protective outer layer of gel or industrial paint to match the venue’s color palette. All connections were also protected and sealed, preventing any possible damage from the elements.

High quality audio with a visual complement including a range of moving lights, LED blinders, and strobes, provides DAYLIGHT/ECLIPSE with a festival-like atmosphere in the beauty and elegance of a Las Vegas day/night club.
