Focal Professional has announced that it is shipping the new Alpha 50 Evo and Alpha 65 Evo studio monitors that replace the current Alpha 50 and 65 models, while the current Alpha 80 is still available.
Both new Evo monitors have an aluminum inverted dome tweeter that’s designed to provide broader sound dispersion, joined by a proprietary Slatefiber cone driver chosen for its neutrality and dynamics. Further, a new large laminar port is designed to limit distortion noise.
The monitors are equipped with a new 1/4-inch (6.35-mm) TRS input jack in addition to XLR and RCA analog inputs, as well as an automatic standby mode that can now be switched off by the user and inserts for wall and ceiling fastening. They’re driven by two onboard class D amplifiers with high current capacity that’s intended to provide added control of the signal dynamics. They are also designed to allow high volumes to be reached without distortion.
Cabinets are constructed of 5/8-inch-thick MDF cabinet and incorporate internal braces to enhance structural integrity, even at higher levels of acoustic pressure. The bass-reflex design is intended to foster easier acoustic integration in cramped spaces.
The new Focal Alpha Evo monitors are available now at retailers in the U.S. and Canada and have suggested retail prices of $349 USD (50 Evo) and $449 USD (65 Evo). Go here for more specifics.
