Focal Heads Up New 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos System At Studio DMI In Las Vegas

New "Studio D" equipped with Trio11 Be pro monitors for left-center-right and Solo6 ST6 loudspeakers as surrounds joined by two Sub12 subwoofers for low frequencies.

A new 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos mix room at Studio DMI headquarters in Las Vegas is equipped with three Focal Trio11 Be pro monitors for left-center-right and eight of the company’s recently introduced Solo6 ST6 loudspeakers as surrounds joined by two Sub12 subwoofers for low frequencies.

“A Focal system is great because it is a system that I trust and am comfortable with,” says Studio DMI founder and nine-time Grammy-nominated mix/mastering engineer Luca Pretolesi. “It is an extension of my ears, allowing me to achieve a level of accuracy and precision in my sound stage that is unparalleled.”

Pretolesi recently mixed Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind album in the new “Studio D” using the Trio11 monitors while engineer Robert Guzman mixed and mastered the Skrillex album Quest For Fire in Dolby Atmos. “A Focal system with Dolby Atmos is a more dynamic, engaging, and immersive listening experience,” states Pretolesi. “It is high quality and makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action.”

The room design was by Haverstick Designs with the technical systems design by Pretolesi and Focal’s Joshua Estock. Custom acoustic treatments are supplied by Vicoustic and an Avid Pro Tools MTRX Studio System. Studio DMI’s 4,000-square-foot complex also houses three other Focal-based studios.

“We’re proud to play a small part in Studio DMI’s new Dolby Atmos room. It sets a new standard for immersive audio in Las Vegas,” says Josh Estock, Focal’s North American pro director. “The team at Studio DMI needed the system to extend low, without being sluggish and slow, while retaining all the detail and dynamics they expect from Focal monitors. They mix and master top-tier work, so the new system had to perform. Thanks to a fantastic sounding room by Haverstick Designs, exacting calibration by Dolby’s Jonathan Lessner, and our flagship Focal monitors, the room really exceeded expectations. If you’re in Las Vegas, you need to hear this room. It will knock your socks off in more ways than one.”
