Have you ever run a radio station? Basically that’s what you’re doing every time you operate a wireless system: A transmitter sends out a signal that is picked up by a receiver, albeit within a limited range and at low power.

A wireless microphone has an antenna that transmits radio signals to a receiver with an antenna, and that signal is sent by cable to a sound system. When you throw an in-ear monitor (IEM) into the mix, the IEM is the receiver being fed by a transmitter.
