Countryman Expands Direct Box Line With New Type 10S & Type 85S Stereo Units

Both boxes leverage the same circuitry used in their popular one-channel counterparts

Countryman Associates has announced the introduction of new Type 10S and Type 85S stereo direct (DI) boxes.

At the core, both boxes leverage the same circuitry used in their popular one-channel counterparts to achieve outstanding performance.

The Type 10S boasts exceptionally low distortion, noise, and deviation from linear phase, with supremely accurate transient response.

The Type 85S faithfully implements the now-industry-standard Class A FET-based amplifier of the Type 85, achieving unparalleled overload characteristics and smooth sound.

All switches and connectors are fully recessed in an architectural aluminum housing strong enough to support an 18-wheeler.

High-quality connectors are used: metal-threaded-nose 1/4-inch jacks, gold-plated super-rugged RCA jacks, and a gold-plated stereo 1/8-inch jack.

The circuit board is potted in epoxy and protected electrically from high-voltage discharges at the input.

Transformer isolation is tested for each box by connecting 500VAC from instrument ground to pin 1 for both XLR outputs—this ensures the maximum protection from radio frequency (RF) interference, hum and buzz.
