Chilean Studio Builds Workflow Around API

Factoria Estudio owner Lilian Allen selects analog BOX console for new studio in Santiago.

Factoria Estudio is still under construction—but owner Lilian Allen had her API BOX console up and running even while the walls and floors were still getting final touches.

In fact, the Factoria Estudio website hasn’t gone live yet, but the studio already reports working with Chilean soul singer GO on their BOX console from API.

Chief engineer Josue Catalan spoke with API about the BOX console’s early success in simplifying client workflow from recording all the way through mastering.

Catalan says encompassing all elements of the recording process is key for the studio. He and Allen are “becoming a 360 degree solution for artists and producers,” and the BOX helped them take a huge step towards that goal.

“We decided to buy the BOX console because it is a complete solution for the studio. It’s really versatile for all the studio duties and definitely has the signature ‘vintage/analog’ sound from API.”

Catalan adds “you can’t go wrong with this console, it has everything you need to get pro sounding products from recording through mastering. The summing mixer gets everything wider, punchier, and has character.”

Catalan has been working with API since he began his training.

“I worked for a year at Studio Master here in Chile, where I became a disciple of Barry Sage (Rolling Stones, David Bowie). He trained me to be the professional I am today.”

Catalan’s experience with API made it an obvious choice when building the studio, and made it hard for him to choose just one favorite element of the BOX. “Its versatility and features are what I like best. The buss compressor is amazing, and I like the way you can easily set it up with your studio configuration; it glues everything together perfectly.”

Factoria Estudio is located in Santiago, Chile. Allen and Catalan purchased their BOX console from Victor Munoz at API distributor 57 Pro Audio.
