Find out the technical and business challenges the studio faced, what drove their decision to upgrade, and more

If you missed Avid’s live webinar earlier this month—“The Commercial Edge At Abbey Road Studios”—it’s now available for free viewing in HD video on the Avid website. Go here to register and view the video.

In the webinar, host Tony Cariddi of Avid and Simon Campbell, Chris Bolster, and Paul Pritchard of Abbey Road Studios explain how Pro Tools|HDX and a new approach helped reposition the studio for success.

More specifically, the webinar addresses:

—The technical and business challenges the studio faced

—What drove their decision to upgrade to Pro Tools|HDX

—What effect HDX has made on their clients’ creativity

While the studios, which are behind hits from top artists such as Adele and Florence + The Machine as well as the scores of blockbuster movies such as Skyfall and The Hobbit, have relied on Pro Tools|HD for years, the upgrade to the more powerful HDX cards and better-sounding HD Series audio interfaces will enable faster performance and unmatched sound quality.

“The accomplished artists and producers that use our facilities expect sonic excellence and the very best tools to work with their recordings. This means we need to use the most up-to-date, highly specified and intuitive recording systems available to us,” states Simon Campbell, head of technical services at Abbey Road Studios. “Upgrading to Avid Pro Tools|HDX has enabled our clients to run larger sessions at high sample rates with as much plug-in processing as required, while operating faster than ever.”

Abbey Road is the most recent of a large group of facilities and private studios making the upgrade to HDX, and the new set-up will marry the timeless expertise of recording and mixing methods with the undeniable advantage that Pro Tools|HDX and HD Series I/O provides users.

“Pro Tools|HDX meets the needs of the most demanding professionals by providing scalable power to deliver peak performance in even the most challenging recording environments,” says W. Sean Ford, vice president of worldwide marketing, Avid. “Avid continues to set the standard for professional music production, and we’re excited to provide the technology that will be powering the award-winning projects coming out of Abbey Road.”

Avid and Abbey Road Studios also announced the launch of the Abbey Road and Avid Song Contest, which will award one grand prize winner the opportunity to have a track mixed with Abbey Road Studios as well as Pro Tools equipment.
