Juice Goose has announced a firmware upgrade to its iP Series power sequencing and control products, the iP1520 and iP-1. The new enhancement expands the communications features of the web based power control products to more than HTML and RS232.

Now, it is possible to control and monitor either unit over Ethernet using raw TCP or UDP protocol. In these modes, any PC (Windows, Linux, Mac) can connect to the iP1520 or iP-1 over a TCP/IP connection using a suitable client program. Once the connection is made, the serial port console and its commands are available to the user over TCP/IP as if the user was connected over the local serial connection.

In addition, Juice Goose has added a “Power Loss” feature to the setup routine of each unit. The Power Loss setup instructs the unit to stay off or return to a previous status following a utility power failure.

“Juice Goose designed its iP addressable units to be adaptable to a broad range of third party control systems. We see our products as muscles capable of responding to instructions from brains using a broad range of communications protocols.”, according to Peter Cook, Juice Goose Vice President.

The iP 1520 is a rack mounted power strip with a 20 amp capacity and three individually addressable power PODs. The iP-1, also known as Piwi, mounts in a wall in a 3-gang space and has two individually addressable PODs.
