Celestion is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. The company reaches this landmark as one of the world’s leading supplier of premium guitar speakers and, after shipping almost half a million compression drivers in the past 12 months, a leading professional audio component suppliers.
Celestion was founded in 1924, designing and building loudspeakers for the radio market. In 1932, a permanent magnet moving coil loudspeaker with greatly improved sound quality (compared to existing technologies) was developed and patented. By 1946, Celestion was manufacturing more than half the loudspeakers in Britain.
During the late 1950s, Celestion introduced what is today one of the most famous guitar speakers of all time, the Celestion Blue. A toughened-up version of an existing general-purpose 12-inch loudspeaker that had been in production for over a decade, the Blue was an immediate hit with many of the up-and-coming musicians during this period, including the Beatles..
Today, Celestion has earned a reputation for creating advanced products, often incorporating patented innovations, a direct result of having one of the largest loudspeaker transducer engineering team in the pro audio industry.
The company now regularly supplies compression drivers, pressed steel and die cast chassis woofers, coaxial and full-range speakers to some of the leading names in sound reinforcement system manufacture.
