Cayman Islands Pirates Week Festival Thrives With D.A.S. Audio

Al Rentals deployed D.A.S. Audio Event and Action Series loudspeakers for the recent 2014 Cayman Islands Pirates Week Festival, which ran for 10 days in the British Overseas Territory, featuring concerts, street dances, competitions, games, a parade, and sports events.

A leading audio and production provider in the region, AI Rentals outfitted the main stage with a system headed by two hangs of eight Event 210A loudspeakers plus two more for in fill, mounted on the subs. Those subs were 16 Event 218A enclosures positioned in a single line across the front of the stage and delayed to make a virtual arc.

Out fills consisted of two additional Event 210A hangs, and there was also a single delay stack comprised of four Event 210A enclosures. Side fills and drum fill were handled with Action 118A bass enclosures and Action 15A systems, with Action 12A enclosures serving as stage monitors.

On the DJ stage, the AI Rentals crew deployed two hangs of six Event 210A and eight Event 218A subs. Two Action 15A enclosures were used for monitors.

“What was particularly notable was the exceptional low-frequency response,” notes Keith Tibbetts, managing director of AI Rentals. “The system was very clean and natural sounding, with very accurate sound reproduction and high SPL. Everyone was really pleased with the system’s performance.”

The company owns a large assortment of D.A.S. Audio equipment, including 40 Event 210A 3-way active line array elements plus 24 Event 218A powered subwoofers, as well as several D.A.S. Action Series systems, including 12 Action 15A point source loudspeakers, eight Action 12A enclosures, four Action 218A powered subs, plus four Action 118A powered horn bass systems.

“We started using D.A.S. Audio products in April of 2014,” Tibbetts reports, “and we’ve been very pleased. The event line was exactly what we were looking for. These loudspeakers offer great sound in a compact form factor. Since these enclosures are all self-powered, system cabling is streamlined.

“We love the quality and the warmth of the sound the Event line provides. I also like the fact that they require very little equalization. The Class D amplifiers in these loudspeakers require so much less power than comparable systems, which enables us to be much more efficient.”

“Build quality and rigging are both very important considerations and, again, the Event Series loudspeakers are first class,” he adds. “The units offer a very rugged design and build that stand up really well over time. The rain/weather protection system has proven to be a great feature. It has rained on multiple setups where we deployed the Event line, allowing us to focus on covering/protecting other equipment and not having to stress about the line array. Further, the multi-configurable rigging/stacking designs provides for a solution to any type of event.”
