Alcons Audio has introduced the new CRMS-SRIW/9090, a wide-dispersion loudspeaker that can function in cinema main/screen and surround applications as well as handle installed audio applications where inconspicuous in-wall or on-wall mounting is required.

The CRMS-SRIW/9090 utilizes the same transducer components as its sible CRMS-SRIW/9040, with the same voicing and tonal balance. A two-way design, it incorporates an RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for high frequences and a vented 8-inch mid-bass driver for low-frequency reproduction, and offers patented 90 by 90-degree dispersion. The low-frequency section is tuned for a usable frequency response down to 58 Hz, designed to enable a smooth transition with additional LFE subwoofers.

Proprietary Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wiring is intended to provide complete cable/connector compensation between the CRMS-SRIW and the ALC amplified loudspeaker controller, the dedicated drive-engine. Together with proprietary VHIR processing, SIS is stated to significantly increase response accuracy.

Philip “Dr. Phil” de Haan, head of Alcons Audio R&D, states, “On the heels of the development of the CRMSC in-wall with less than 4-in/10cm depth, larger applications demanded a higher output, but at the same time, also required a wide projection for near-field applications and for overhead or height-layer immersive sound systems. So the design brief was more output, wider dispersion and a minimal mounting depth.”

Implementation of the company’s new patent-pending waveguide technology into the larger RBN 4-inch driver platform lead to a cabinet depth of 5.9 inches (150 mm). CRMS-SRIW also have an optional cloth grille and are available ACO (Architect Color Option) in 180-plus RAL color schemes. Go here for more specifics.
