Adamson Heads New System At Norway Cultural Center

Venue initially built as a butter and margarine factory in 1905 has been transformed and is now outfitted with a new system utilizing IS10P loudspeakers, IS119 subwoofers, and more.

One of Bergen, Norway’s largest venues, Bergen Kjøtt, recently received a sound reinforcement upgrade headed by Adamson loudspeakers in a project led by technical consultant Sverre Vik, with products supplied by Adamson partner Benum Norway.

Now a cultural center, the venue was initially built for operations as a butter and margarine factory in 1905 and then was converted into a meat processing plant in 1968 that shut down in 2000. It’s now owned by the Bergen Kjøtt Foundation, a non-profit organization working to offer the community artistic innovation, collaboration, and growth.

“This upgrade is completely transformational to Bergen Kjøtt. Bergen Kjøtt is one of the city´s largest venues but, until now, we had no equipment of our own — everything had to be rented,” explains general manager Eva Rowson. “As an old concrete factory, it´s always been difficult to tune sound for the room but now we have a permanent system, we have been able to adjust the sound beautifully for the room.”

The new system in the venue’s main hall, funded by grants from Kulturrom, Sparebanken Vest, Bergen Kommune, and EGD Property, utilizes four Adamson IS10P full-range loudspeakers joined by four IS119 subwoofers and four PC12 Point Concentric loudspeakers, all driven by Lab Gruppen D-Series amplifiers. “The room is of concrete and is really reverberant, but the Adamson IS10P really cuts through and gives a very detailed sound image with lots of headroom,” notes Kenneth Vadset of Benum Norway.

Rowson and her team at plan to use the new PA system to train more women, non-binary, and transgender people to come to grips with the tools of sound engineering. It will also be utilized at upcoming events such as Transgender Awareness Week, EKKO Electronic Music Festival, and Bergen International Film Festival.
