New Layout Offers a True “One-stop” Resource for Cable Needs

DES PLAINES, IL, November 30, 2001-Gepco International, Inc. has enhanced its Web site (www.gepco.com), making it easier to navigate and providing an even more comprehensive source of company news and product information.

“Cables can be a mystery to many people, and we wanted the Web site to present our products in a way that made sense,” says Scott Fehl, Product Manager at Gepco. “Instead of just listing products by part number, which often means little to most people, we’ve regrouped products into six categories according to their application. We have our analog and digital audio categories; then we have our video products, which are also broken down into digital and analog; a composite category which contains audio/video hybrid cables; and, finally, the camera cable category.”

Fehl notes that Gepco wanted to make the site as easy to navigate as possible. “For example, clicking on ‘Digital Audio: Thin Profile’ will provide a list of all thin-profile digital audio cables at once, so users don’t have to click back and forth to compare specs.

It’s all there in the same chart. For those who aren’t comfortable reading off charts, the same information is also listed in a short paragraph with the main points illustrated in bullet form beneath.”

The enhanced site is also an educational resource. “We designed it knowing that people wouldn’t know whether or not they need, say, 15 mls of polyethylene insulation and a tin copper conductor,” says Fehl. “That’s why it’s now focused on how the end user intends to use the product, providing a wealth of useful information, instead of just confusing technical jargon that may make sense to the engineer who designed the product but not to our customers. We wanted to provide them with a ‘Gepco encyclopedia,’ if you will, so they can educate themselves.

There’s nothing more frustrating than wanting to learn but having to deal with information that’s limited or inaccessible.”

The site also provides information about Gepco’s full range of services. “We’re not a ‘Me Too’ company,” Fehl notes. “We wanted to show why our products are different and better. We also wanted to show off our capabilities in a visually compelling way. As people drag their mouse over our home page, a thumbnail will highlight our most recent user profiles, products and company news.”

Fehl also believes the upgraded site will stimulate sales “because we provide a better understanding of product application, with specs that are easy to compare and high-resolution photos so consumers have a good idea of what they’re buying.” In the near future, the site will have an archive that users can peruse, as well as an FAQ section, based on a compilation of frequently asked questions.
