Provides Signal Compression without Sacrificing Warmth, at an Affordable Price

NEW YORK, Nov. 30, 2001—Summit Audio introduces the TLA-50 Tube Leveling Amplifier, which will be on display at the AES Convention, Booth 818. Designed for studio and live sound applications, the TLA-50 offers smaller digital studios a processing section that adds warmth to a signal while providing a distinctly musical compression. In addition, the TLA-50, which has a three-year warranty, offers the great sound of Summit’s TLA-100A at a price attractive to everyone.

The TLA-50 is a half-rack space powerhouse compressor based on Summit Audio’s classic tube circuitry. The input stage employs a 12AX7A/ECC83 vacuum tube to deliver, into every audio application, the sound only high-end facilities have enjoyed in the past. This full-featured leveling amplifier offers three-position attack and release switches, continuously variable gain and gain reduction control, and provides highly-accurate VU metering of output and gain reduction for precise visual tailoring of the audio signal. The TLA-50 features a side chain insert for flexible use.
The output stage is a discrete component transistor circuit optimized for smooth and quiet response utilizing plus and minus 24-volt rails from the internal high-voltage power supply. Discrete circuits do not saddle the audio signal with the degradation and coloration of a transformer-coupled circuit as found in other products. The unit also offers linking with another TLA-50 for outstanding stereo compression capabilities.

“We designed the TLA-50 to function with -10 dB or +4 dB inputs and outputs, so the TLA-50 automatically becomes a great-sounding, level-matching device for any application,” says Erik Papp of Summit Audio. “It even has a bypass switch that still passes the audio through the tube-driven input stage, yielding that great sound only a tube can provide, without the compression. In every way, the TLA-50 gives that smooth, signature sound that says Summit Audio to the listener, and that literally means the best sound in the industry is now available to everyone.”

Established in 1979, Summit Audio manufactures tube equipment for the recording, post-production, broadcast and live sound industries. In addition to its full line of popular, vacuum-tube-based, high-end equipment, Summit Audio manufactures the award-winning Element 78 line of solid state signal processing units.

Setting it apart from the rest, all Summit products are handcrafted in its own manufacturing facility in Watsonville, CA. Each unit is rigorously tested on Audio Precision test equipment and each product undergoes constant quality upgrades. Summit Audio products are used throughout the world from home studios to such top recording studios as Capitol Records, The Hit Factory, Skywalker Sound and Effanel Music, Inc.
