You turn on the sound system and you hear a radio station. Now what? Let’s lay aside the ‘magic fixes” and “voodoo methods” and set forth a methodical procedure to deal with this problem, which is called Radio Frequency Interference (RFI). The key is to “divide and conquer.” It’s essential that the problem be localized to one part of the sound system. If more than one problem exists, these tests will help disclose that also. Start with simple tests and…

Keith Clark

I’ve had the great good fortune to attend so, so many notable concerts and live events over the past 20 years. All due to my job, and the fact that so many folks working in professional audio are incredibly gracious in sharing their insights and working knowledge. One of the most memorable experiences is being at the Houston Livestock & Rodeo (also known as Rodeo Houston and in fact, the world’s largest rodeo event) a dozen or so years ago,…

When Athens’ Pallas Theatre was built in 1926, it quickly became a popular cosmopolitan destination for Athenian socialites, replacing the royal horse stables that were representative of this oldest city in Europe. With its regular jazz music and other eclectic performances, the Pallas Theatre paved the way for an influx of cafes, restaurants, and other gathering places, transforming the city’s Voukourestiou Street district into a cultural hub. Many decades later, Athens received a much needed revitalization, and the Pallas Theatre…

I can’t believe I have been at my new house gig for a couple months now. Time sure flies when you’re having fun! I wasn’t there when they brought in the gear and set it up, so some things are not the way I would have set them up. The mixer is on top of the outboard rack, like you’d do with a portable rig. Bending down behind a rack is not the best way to hear the tweaks you’re…
