Sia set numerous attendance records on her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which crisscrossed North America during the fall of 2016 in promotion of her latest album, This Is Acting. The artist is continually redefining her performance art and relied heavily on a full complement of Adamson E-Series loudspeakers to do so on her most recent run. Front of engineer Jon Lemon was given direct instructions from the artist to “make it sound like the record.” He subsequently received the… View this post

    Ken DeLoria 12/21/16 12:19 PM,
Change is the only constant. (“Well, it used to be.” “Oh, what happened?” “It changed.”) Several years ago, I got a call to mix front of house for Uriah Heep on a mini-tour of the U.S. I hadn’t mixed a headliner rock band in a long time. Years back, fate took me down the path of product design and manufacturing, and later, I became a specialist in sound system alignment (a.k.a. “room tuning”) for major events and installations. So I’ve… View this post

Known as the birthplace of Manitoba, Upper Fort Garry in Winnipeg is a significant site in Canadian history. Although the original fort was largely demolished in the 1880’s, its remaining Governor’s Gate and an area of surrounding land was gifted to the city by the Hudson Bay Company “as a public park forever.” Overshadowed by surrounding buildings and nearly forgotten, recent development pressures rekindled interest in the site and led to the inspired vision of a $19 million heritage park… View this post

Courtesy of Merlijn van Veen.   Why does a specification like “We need a sound system capable of delivering full range 103 dB(A) of clear and undistorted sound at the front of house position” make me scratch my head? Because, typically the mix doesn’t exhibit an A-weighted spectrum. Even as a precautionary measure to make sure the sound system is capable of handling the show, this remains a questionable specification. Never mind that it doesn’t mention an integration time (average)… View this post

Wall Sound and Lighting, based in the Canadian national capital of Ottawa, has secured its place as a major player in the region’s high-end event rental market by investing in a Meyer Sound LEO Family reinforcement system. “Here in Ottawa we’re sandwiched between Toronto and Montreal, which means we face stiff competition from large regional providers on the major events,” notes Neil Collier, senior project manager for the company. “Our recent investment in Meyer Sound’s LEO Family not only has… View this post

Library Lions is the New York Public Library’s largest annual event and one of the most anticipated evenings on New York City’s cultural calendar. The 2016 event recognized outstanding artists and wordsmiths including Harry Belafonte, Hilary Mantel, Javier Marías, Peggy Noonan, and Colm Tóibín. To overcome acoustic challenges in the highly reverberant Rose Main Reading Room, L&M Sound & Light’s project supervisor, Maciej Zielik decided on a system comprised of two K-array KR202 portable systems placed at the front of… View this post
