Ministry of Sound London’s Technical Manager Alex Barrand recently commissioned a Soundcraft Si2 digital sound desk for the famous main dance room, The Box. At the PLASA Show last September he was introduced to the Soundcraft Si1 by Harman UK/ROI distributor Sound Technology’s Dave Bradshaw. “There are so many digital desks on the market — but I realised that this was the easiest analogue-to-digital conversion desk money can buy,” commented Alex. British indie rock stalwarts, Tindersticks, recently embarked on a European tour to promote their 9th studio album, ‘Falling Down a Mountain’, with FOH engineer, David ‘Milky’ Millward. Millward selected an Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system as the FOH console. “I’ve used almost all of the pro digital consoles around, and although a very familiar name to me since I started in the industry, I hadn’t encountered Allen & Heath’s iLive system until now,” explains Millward. “Faced with a… View this post

Bartlett Microphones is now offering the TM-125HP, the High Performance version of their TM-125 boundary mic. Originally designed for the sound reinforcement of actors in drama or musicals, the TM-125HP is also ideal for recording or broadcasting opera, drama, musicals, solo recitals, and small classical music ensembles. The TM-125HP has 14 dBA self-noise—8 dB less than the TM-125—and a flatter frequency response intended for recording. Located in the Austrian spa town of Baden, the Buehne Baden Theatre hosts a wide array of productions, from plays, operas and musicals to symphony concerts, big bands and rock concerts. Accommodating these shows is a challenge for the theatre’s sound department, but one which has been significantly eased with the delivery of a DiGiCo SD7T console. As production mixer Paul Ledford, C.A.S. recently discovered, a digital audio solution such as Metric Halo’s ULN-8 interface can handle the increasingly more complex demands of a modern-day film shoot better than its analog counterparts. Ledford recently finished work on Jonathan Liebesman’s Battle: Los Angeles, a Sony Pictures movie about a group of U.S. Marines confronting and combating an alien invasion, which placed some unusual demands on the mixer’s location sound cart setup.
