PSW Staff
05/15/13 10:11 AM,
In 1999, singer Tony Bennett and his wife Susan Benedetto, then a public school teacher, were inspired to start a public high school for young artists and envisioned a school that would integrate the arts with rigorous academics, require a commitment to community service, and help students cultivate a lifelong love of, and dedication to, their artistic passions and crafts. With assistance from the New York City Department of Education and the not-for-profit Exploring the Arts (ETA) who assisted in…

The Bigger Picture On The Equalization Of Loudspeakers
Pat Brown
05/14/13 04:06 PM,
The procedure often followed for equalizing a loudspeaker is to place the measurement microphone on-axis and adjust for the flattest frequency response. This often involves boosting some filters when the axial response over a range of frequencies is lower than the average. Those that are opposed to the use of boost filters may choose to arrive at the same resultant response by reducing (cutting) parts of the response to the lowest common denominator. This results in the same electrical curve,…

The Relationship Between Amplifier Damping Factor, Impedance & Cable
Jerrold Stevens
05/13/13 03:21 PM,
Ever have one of your friendly amplifier reps walk in your office to present their new mondo-gazillion-watt beast and point out the damping factor spec of greater than a bazillion? Why, gee-whiz! That’s like 10 times more than the other guy! It must be awesome! Right? Well, as we have seen before, it depends on how you are going to use it. PSW Staff
05/13/13 01:30 PM,
The roots of Chicago’s Union League Club date back to the Civil War, when an elite group of northerners formed the Union League of America as a defense against radical Confederate sympathizers in the north. The Club, which boasts locations in several major cities, has evolved to become one of Chicago’s most prominent social clubs, playing a major role in establishing such cultural institutions as The Art Institute of Chicago, Orchestra Hall, the Field Museum, and the Harold Washington Library…

Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre Puts On Full Production With Soundcraft & JBL
PSW Staff
05/10/13 12:39 PM,
Over the years, London based live production company ARC Sound has produced many corporate functions in the Underglobe, the events space situated beneath London’s famous Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. But since the reconstruction in wood of the original Elizabethan playhouse on the Thames South Bank, a full production set up has never been allowed, or indeed attempted, in the main theatre space itself. However, all that has now changed. To celebrate the Bard’s birthday this month, a concert audio production set-up…
