An icon of the modern People’s Republic of China, Beijing’s Great Hall of the People is truly a towering architectural achievement. The 1.9million square foot (171,800 sq m) hall, overlooking the city’s Tiananmen Square, was originally constructed in just 10 months, officially opening in September 1959 to mark the 10th anniversary of the PRC. Designed by Zhang Bo, it has since become famous worldwide as the home of the National People’s Congress.  Most recently, the Great Hall was once again… View this post

Gibson’s Bookstore opened in Concord in 1898 and has been a cornerstone of the community’s cultural and intellectual milieu ever since. Owner Michael Herrmann recently moved the bookstore down the street to the first floor of a brand new five-story office building. At 10,000 square-feet, the move more than doubled Gibson’s floor space and incorporated the newly-acquired Imagination Village educational toy store. The fact that it was new construction gave Herrmann the opportunity to design the store to his exact… View this post

In February of 1957, a group of about 80 faithful founded Knollwood Baptist Church, meeting at a local funeral hall until their first chapel was completed in July. More than half a century later, Knollwood’s congregation numbers in the thousands, and their 1000-seat sanctuary offers multiple services each week. The sanctuary’s modernistic design is truly impressive, with its soaring peaked ceilings, abundant glass, and polished surfaces. But that same design has long been problematic for the church’s technical staff, who… View this post

The University of Illinois’ 60,000-seat Memorial Stadium and the University of Wisconsin’s 80,000-seat Camp Randall Stadium each received a huge new Daktronics video board in time for the 2013-2014 season. At 3,500 and 4,200 square feet, respectively, the new boards dwarf their predecessors in both size and quality. With them came new Daktronics-designed and installed sound reinforcement systems, each with abundant musical low-end supplied by four Danley Sound Labs TH-812 “Rock Monster” subwoofers. “Our clients never ask for more high… View this post

Located just west of Crandon, Wisconsin, the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway hosts a variety of motor races, R/C races, concerts, and other entertainment throughout the summer season. The venue’s audio system, which consisted of traditional public address paging horns, had difficulty overcoming the track’s noise levels and it had deteriorated over the years from exposure to Wisconsin weather. In 2012, the raceway contacted Kevin Mullins of Arrow AV Group in Appleton, Wisconsin for a quote on a new system. Mullins… View this post
