Independent FOH engineer Nigel Paul is using the Midas PRO9 digital live audio system for the band’s ongoing world tour. Dream Theater has been on the road almost continuously since July 2011 in support of its 11th studio album, A Dramatic Turn Of Events. Clair Global is the audio provider. For Paul, choosing a Midas PRO Series console was an easy decision. A career-long fan of Midas analog consoles, most notably the XL4, he became an early adopter of the… View this post

Total Events, based in Geelong Victoria, supplied a Harman-based audio system for background music, MC and umpires at the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club stands for the recent Davis Cup tennis tournament in Australia. The main challenge for Total Events was keeping a minimal layout without obscuring sightlines and the company’s stock of JBL Professional VRX Constant Curvature loudspeakers was well-suited for the application due to their low visual impact. Six JBL VRX918S powered subwoofers and 12 JBL VRX932LA loudspeakers were… View this post

    digital consoles
    PSW Staff 05/11/12 12:47 PM,
The tide of digital consoles continues to rise. In general, they’re getting smaller and lighter, but overall capabilities are increasing at a steady pace. Already this year we’ve seen several companies introduce new models and series, and they all look to be smartly executed packages, providing users with more. More I/O. More networking. More recording capability. More effects. And, well, just more. This is an ideal scenario for the marketplace. If you’re more focused on the “look and feel,” there… View this post

    digital console club
    Mark Frink 05/09/12 03:29 PM,
It’s common for live music clubs to economize with second-hand sound equipment, and some value can be found in older loudspeakers and analog desks which are no longer rider-friendly enough for their original owners. Used analog consoles cost a fraction of their original price, so it’s not unusual to find club equipment older than the engineer running it. However, concert sound production is accustomed to the benefits that digital consoles provide. Let’s see what those benefits bring to live music… View this post

Allen & Heath’s iLive digital mixing system was selected by promoters, Cato Music, to manage FOH and monitors on the British Music Embassy stage at this year’s iconic SXSW festival in Austin TX, USA. Showcasing the UK’s brightest new bands and artists, the British Music Embassy was exclusively based at downtown Austin’s Latitude 30 club, where an iDR-48 MixRack and iLive-T112 Control Surface was installed at FOH, digitally split using a Dante networking card to a duplicateiDR-48/T112 for monitors. There… View this post

As the heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch tours North America in 2012, front of house engineer Bruce Reiter will be mixing them on his new desk: the Midas PRO2C digital mixing system. “I was looking for a compact console and saw it online,” Reiter states. “I was considering a lot of different desks, but then I had the opportunity to touch the PRO2C for the first time at the NAMM Show. I decided then and there that I… View this post

Stage Electrics has chosen a DiGiCo SD9 console to control an all-new audio system, designed for both live performance and digital cinema, at the Trinity Theatre in Tunbridge Wells, UK.  Built in the mid 19th century, the Holy Trinity was Tunbridge Wells’ first parish church. After its final religious service in 1972 its Grade 1 listed status ensured safety from demolition, and by 1975 a public petition had secured permission from the Church Commissioners to produce a plan for community… View this post

    church sound
    Chris Huff 05/04/12 11:29 AM,
This article is provided by Behind The Mixer.   You could potentially improve your mix quality by taking one little step: learning how the channel EQ controls affect sound frequencies.  They may not work like you expect. Turning Knobs I recall seeing the EQ knobs labeled “High” and “Low” as I looked upon the sound board during my first time mixing. “I know what those mean,” I thought. “I can increase or decrease those high and low frequencies.” I was… View this post
