About 15 or so years ago, I went to a rock concert at a stadium in Chicago. They were known for having elaborate and advanced concert setups. I expected many stacks of loudspeakers and amazing “big, immersive” sound along with a huge video display. Unfortunately, the outcome proved just the opposite - talk about disappointing! It…

In a departure from his recent stadium tours, Meeuwis’s current appearances to promote his NW8 CD, recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, are in theatre-sized venues across Holland, where engineers Michiel Lukassen (monitors) and John van Heertum (FOH) are finding the DiGiCo duo the perfect solution. TM Audio, DiGiCo’s distributor in The Netherlands sold the consoles to Rent-All, the production company behind the current tour. “The Meeuwis crew used to be committed analog guys,” says Jaap Pronk of TM Audio.…

Running sound for the touring concert crowd is a tough business—set up early, mix the show, tear everything down, move to the next location, and repeat it all over again. When you consider this routine frequently also involves lighting equipment, backline (instruments), and possibly even staging, you begin to appreciate why roadies don’t know where they are half the time. One thing the road crew doesn’t need is a temperamental sound reinforcement system. That’s why Waverly, OH-based JSL Productions, who…

Sugarland, the multi-award-winning country music duo comprising Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, and their band have been touring around the U.S. throughout the summer with more than three-dozen channels of Sennheiser wireless vocal microphone, personal monitor and instrument systems. The band’s live engineers are enthusiastic about Sennheiser’s exemplary sound quality and performance, of course, but it’s Sugarland’s use of the unique Command option on the SKM 5200 RF handheld vocal mics that has them most excited. “It’s a cool feature…
