A new sound reinforcement system serving the 1,800-seat Interstake Auditorium at the LDS (Mormon) Temple in Oakland, CA, incorporates technologies from the Bose Professional Systems Division. The worship facility had presented significant challenges to sound system designers ever since it first opened in 1964, including strong, focused echoes, somewhat heightened ambient noise levels, and a ceiling built too low for that type of room. These difficulties needed to be addressed once and for all, and as cost-effectively and efficiently as… View this post

The 1983 US Festival, held last May at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino County, California, may not have drawn the largest outdoor festival crowd ever assembled, but those persons in attendance did witness one of the planet’s most massive outdoor concert sound systems ever pieced together. Staged over the Memorial Day weekend in a 54-acre bowl scraped out of a hillside in the Los Angeles-area public facility, the US Festival had an $18 million budget, which contained ample… View this post

    Tommy O’Brien 06/04/12 09:56 AM,
Back in the mid-1900s, amplifier classes were defined as Class-A, Class-B, Class-D and several others (Class-C, -G, -S, etc). Class-A, Class-AB, and Class-D are the primary topologies found in modern amplifiers, with the other classes largely variations of the three fundamental topologies. Let’s briefly look at the basics of each design. Figure 1 (below) shows an amplifier output stage. A resistor (RL) is the load. However, real loads are loudspeakers, and present a reactance - not a pure resistance -… View this post
