An important consideration in microphone use is acoustic interference, which can occur whenever delayed versions of the same sound are mixed together, acoustically or electrically. With mics, this may happen in several ways: mics of reverse polarity picking up the same sound, multiple mics picking up the same sound from different distances, a single mic picking up multiple reflections of the same sound, or any combination of these. The results are similar in each case, and include audible peaks and…

For a church with an active choir ministry this can be one of the most volatile challenges they have to deal with. The solution to the problem is usually not a simple one. In many evangelical churches, the choir is still an extremely important element of the worship service although the musical styles have evolved from…

It takes the right blend of quality ingredients and salient directions to produce the best results from any recipe. If a dessert recipe calls for cream, it’s not essential to use Alpine milk from hand-milked Bavarian cows, but using skim milk instead of cream may jeopardize the final results. The same holds true for sound reinforcement. A microphone for a singing vocalist that’s substituted with a pulpit microphone designed for spoken word simply isn’t the right ingredient for the recipe.…

The Fillmore Charlotte, a 20,000-square-foot venue at the North Carolina Music Factory’s entertainment complex in Charlotte, North Carolina’s Fourth Ward neighborhood, stays true to the tradition of the original Fillmore theaters. The venue, which opened this past June with Georgia acoustic rocker Corey Smith headlining, has the Fillmore’s trademark red velvet draperies, ornate chandeliers, custom lighting and vintage concert posters. The building, once a historic Charlotte manufacturing site, was reinvigorated by Live Nation, the world’s largest concert promoter, with Soundcraft…
