Allen & Heath has shipped the first batch of the new iLive-T digital mixing systems. The iLiveT was launched last month at Winter NAMM 2009, and the British manufacturer has been overwhelmed as distributors have placed orders months in advance to cope with demand. “The response to iLive-T has been unprecedented and production is now flat out to fulfill orders,” explains Managing Director Glenn Rogers. “In all my years in the pro audio industry I’ve rarely seen a reaction to…

Ever since my most recent steady house gig became not quite so steady, I’ve been banished to a 14-foot straight truck to do gigs that usually come at the last minute. In fact, last minute gigs have become the rule instead of the exception. I used to consider getting booked for a Saturday gig on the prior Tuesday as a tight timeframe. Day 1 Dateline: ANAHEIM, CA, USA - So I was a day late in showing up for NAMM… which isn’t necessarily a bad thing because this is pretty much an annual event akin to the Bill Murray film “Groundhog Day” (where the same nonsense happens day after day until the lead role “gets it right”). Late or not, I arrived to find the same vendors of “custom” (in other words, off the rack) guitar pick guards… The same drum companies…

Touring in support of their most recent album, Accelerate, R.E.M. selected Oxnard, California-based Rat Sound to handle sound reinforcement requirements, with Brett Eliason serving as FOH engineer and George Squiers handling monitor mix honors. Clair Brothers sublet two Midas XL8 digital mixing consoles (for house and monitors) to Rat Sound for the tour. “We pushed for the Midas consoles,” Eliason notes, adding, “Having the Midas preamps at the front end and a true 24-bit, 96 kHz digital resolution were the…
