When first established in 1947, Columbia Community Church’s services in Richland, Washington, consisted of a humble home prayer meeting. However, since then the church has grown substantially, becoming a thriving family of over 1,000 parishioners united in their efforts to attract worshippers from a variety of diverse backgrounds with their modern, high-impact style of worship. After a complete remodeling of Columbia’s existing worship space the church leadership decided that a new sound reinforcement system was called for as well, explains…

In any house of worship, clarity is key. “Proclaiming the Word of God, in speech and in song, must be clearly understood by everyone,” says Timothy Frederick, Bethlehem’s Director for Media Ministries. Bethlehem Baptist Church, which celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2011, is a multi-campus church based in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. But since its Minneapolis campus’ current sanctuary opened in 1991, the church’s style of worship has changed dramatically. “Because of the multi-ethnic expressions of our congregation and our focus…

After years of dealing with unintelligibility issues, Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue, Washington, decided to upgrade their sanctuary sound system. Morgan Sound A/V was called upon to consult on the new system and resolve the intellibility issues once and for all. After careful consideration Stephen Week, a consultant with Morgan Sound A/V, specified a system featuring Tannoy VX loudspeakers powered by Lab.gruppen amplifiers. “Previously, they had no real high-end in the room,” explains Weeks. “There was no intelligibility. The room…

The Village Theater, located in historic downtown Danville, California, has been a community fixture for more than 150 years. Originally built as a barn, it has served as many things, including a movie theater. When the city purchased the venue in 1987, it opened its doors as a performing arts theater for the community. The city leaders recently decided it was time to remodel the interior and upgrade the sound system. They contacted Leo’s Professional Audio of Oakland, to design…

The Bethel Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, NC, recently added a Vision Center to house additional Sunday school rooms, office space, as well as a large kitchen and multi-purpose fellowship area and stage. The church leadership tapped Tony Parker, co-owner of Parkers Productions located in Statesville, NC, to design and install a sound system for the new facility. Established in 1776, Royal Oak Presbyterian Church in Marion, VA, is one of the oldest congregations in the United States. Its rich history and the traditions associated with it are an integral part of their worship, says Pastor Alan Gray, but he adds: “We’re trying to merge our traditional services with new expressions of worship that are meaningful for the intergenerational nature of our congregation.” To meet that requirement, audio designer/installer K.D. Forsha of Bristol, TN, specified a a new…

Opened in 1879, Glasgow Central is Scotland’s busiest railway station, with around 34 million people passing through the station every year. A recent renovation of the transportation hub, instigated by Network Rail, included a new public address system featuring the largest installation of Tannoy Qflex loudspeakers to date. The cavernous nature of the building, along with expansive reflective floor surfaces, sandstone walls and a glass roof, resulted in lengthy reverberations times that caused serious intelligibility issues. To handle the extensive…

Located in Manhattan’s historic Grace Building, STK Midtown is “not your typical restaurant, and this is not your typical sound system,” states Ernie Lake, chief creative operator at EL Media Group, designer and installer of the restaurant’s sound system. He specified Lab.gruppen and Tannoy products to provide highly intelligible reinforcement for both programmed music and live DJs throughout the 9,000 square-foot space, as well as enough volume to create energy within the room without drowning out conversation. It’s an important…
