Microphone manufacturer SoundField has launched a software version of their UPM-1 stereo-to-5.1 upmix processor at IBC 2010. Originally released in hardware form at IBC 2008, the UPM-1 has already been adopted by major broadcasters such as Sky, SIS Live, and NDR as an easy-to-use, reliable means of generating realistic-sounding, broadcast-quality 5.1 surround sound when only a stereo mix is available. British progressive rock pioneer King Crimson recently remastered their catalog for release in 5.1 audio with the help of PenteoSurround processing. The group’s co-founder Robert Fripp chose Simon Heyworth to master the project at his Super Audio Mastering studios in southwest England. Neyrinck has announced that V-Mon version 2.0 for Pro Tools is now shipping. The new plug-in increases the surround input sources from six to ten for 5.1 stem monitoring.
