Community Professional Loudspeakers is introducing two new high-performance monitors to its M-Class Series, the MX8 and MX10. Handling 300 watts and 500 watts respectively, the 8-inch MX8 and 10-inch MX10 use Community’s proprietary co-axial driver units, meaning that all sound emanates from the same point source. A proprietary Tru-Phase conical high frequency waveguide eliminates the transition anomalies that occur in most square and rectangular horns, enhancing phase and frequency response performance while also reducing feedback, improving intelligibility and delivering uniform…

A stage monitoring system is, simply, a complete and independent second sound system for the performers rather than the audience, made up of monitor loudspeakers (also called monitors for short or wedges due to their shape), power amplification and signal processing. A monitor system can also have its own mixer/console, or receive a feed (or feeds) from the main system console. Note that adjustments made to the main system mix do not affect the monitor system mix, and vice versa.…

A while ago, I mentioned to my MoM (Minister of Music) that our backing vocals were sounding pretty rough on a regular basis. Their intonation was so bad at times that we often had to use the “shoot it before it multiplies” approach to mixing. You know - if it doesn’t sound good, don’t turn it up! So over the summer he scheduled regular rehearsals just with the backing vocalists, and he stopped me in the hall recently to tell…

Pearl Jam, now back on the road in support of new release “Backspacer”, is utilizing EAW MicroWedge MW12 stage monitors selected by the band’s long-time Monitor Engineer Karrie Keyes and provided by Rat Sound Systems of Oxnard, CA. Among the challenges Keyes faces this tour are limited stage space, very loud stage volume and meeting the individual sound preferences of each of the musicians. The goal is to have no “pockets” on stage without sound, with lead singer Eddie Vedder…
