When the concept of Manitoba Centennial Centre originated in 1960 the project was intended as a means of commemorating Canada’s centenary and part of a wide ranging attempt at urban renewal in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas Area; a facility purpose-built to serve succeeding generations of Manitobans as a permanent focus for the performing arts. In November 2010, the 253, 014-square-foot, 2,305-seat venue’s ability to do so was dramatically enhanced with the installation of a state of the art acoustic enhancement system… View this story

    Old Soundman 01/05/12 01:45 PM,
Dear Old Soundman: Studio engineers verses front-of-house engineers - can they be one and the same? Studio guys don’t want to let us get a shot at their jobs, because we would wipe the floor with them! Unfortunately, we would also wipe the floor with their clients! Do I really want to spend three months listening to some rock star (who tries to pretend he’s a man of the people) reveal how completely dependent he is on the click track,… View this story

Go ahead and see how much you really know or don’t know about Compression. This mini-test gets progressively more difficult and is a good indicator of where you stand in this area of pro audio science. Rick Kreifeldt, Harman Professional SDIG Vice President, has graciously guest authored a dynamics processing inspired Twenty Questions. There is one correct answer for each question. Good luck!   1.) What does a Compression Ratio of 4:1 mean? A.) Once past the threshold, the input… View this story

    Jeff Kuells 12/20/11 09:28 AM,
When I set out writing the article it was originally about 70-volt audio distribution systems. However, it occurred to me that prior to educating readers about 70-volt systems, it was more important to examine the market conditions we’re currently face today. Quite often, sound reinforcement companies are asked to perform audio installations. While sound contracting and live sound may be the focus of a few businesses tackling both markets is not the norm for most sound reinforcement companies. However, one-stop… View this story
