Founded in 1994 by Lollapalooza veteran Kevin Lyman, the Vans Warped Tour has now grown to feature as many as 100 bands per stop, spread among numerous stages. This year (2008), North America’s longest running tour traveled to well over 40 different cities, sometimes going from stop to stop for more than a full week without a day off. A few years ago, as part of the Warped Eco Initiative (WEI) to “clean up and green up,” the tour deployed… View this story

Version 3 of the VMB ARKEOPS digital controller provides air absorption compensation. The attenuation effects of air are well known. At 15 000Hz, for instance, 12 dB of loss can be observed at 30 metres (100 feet) with 30% relative humidity. This makes an otherwise flat frequency response at close range totally dull when the audience is located at a distance. The problem gets worse as humidity decreases and to a less extent when it gets colder. Air attenuation is… View this story

Do we have a networking standard yet? The short answer, once again, is “no.” As in year past, this year’s AES generated rumors of progress along with signs that convergence on an industry standard for transfer and routing of digital audio and device control data is going to be a long and winding road. Seems kind of silly, doesn’t it? If we had such a network, digital consoles, signal-and-loudspeaker management “system brains,” and amplifier/loudspeaker systems (whether joined umbilically by speaker… View this story

Moderator: (Dave Dermont) Good evening and welcome to our chat with Jamie Anderson of SIA Software Company. Jamie, could you give us some background about what you did before SIA, for those of us too lazy to read the bio? Jamie: I’ve got an EE (electrical engineering) degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) from Yale Department of Drama, and then spent six years at Meyer Sound as SIM and technical support manager. This was… View this story
