You recall, despite its simple interface and lack of things to tweak, how great the reverb of a Lexicon PCM-60 sounded. Another advantage to getting older is that the gear you lusted after as a youngster becomes affordable. The downside of this can…

A/V consultant Under the Wire recently completed construction on the home studio of guitar legend Zakk Wylde, installing a multitude of dbx equipment to help Zakk and his band, Black Label Society record their new album. Aviom, known to countless church sound personnel and musicians for its “more of me” personal monitor mixing controls, has put considerable work into how to move audio signals from one place to another. It’s led to the development of a digital snake system and audio networking system, which Kent Gibson discusses in the August, 2009 issue of Church Production magazine. How does this technology work? What are the advantages (and potential downsides) of transporting signal in the digital domain? And…

Will Allen Airshows present a series of breath-taking loops, hammerheads, spins, stalls, and other aerial maneuvers - all while Allen, known as the “Flying Tenor”, sings the national anthem of the United States and, occasionally, the anthem of Canadian live from the cockpit of his Decathlon (a two-seat fixed conventional gear light airplane). The aerobatic routine has been choreographed to harmonize with the cadence and crescendos of the anthems as Allen performs solo, with keyboard accompaniment emanating from terra firma.…

It’s hardly rare to hear the words “major motion picture event” applied to a summer film. Visually stunning or not, whether it’s the latest Hollywood biopic, all-star comedy or action adventure, the phrase is attached to big budget summer flicks so permanently and casually that we hardly take notice. The annual July 4th concert performance at the Ft. Wayne campus of Indiana/Purdue University featured four local acts capped off by nationally known country singer Jo Dee Messina and a spectacular finale featuring the Ft. Wayne Symphony Orchestra performing in tandem with choreographed fireworks. To accommodate all of the performers, Sticha Bros, who’d been contracted for the event by Northern Productions of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, set up a larger 60- x 60-foot stage next to a smaller 60- x…
