You’ve finally invested in a high-quality vocal microphone and your voice has never sounded better. Unfortunately, the keyboard player in your band decides he wants to use your mic during his featured rap. You cringe as he practically eats the microphone. You can barely watch as he encourages audience members to scream into the mic. Afterwards he returns your mic, still operational but considerably wetter and unhygienic. Microphones are subject to an inordinate amount of abuse, especially in live music.… View this story

Sun Life Stadium, home of the NFL Miami Dolphins and NCAA University of Miami Hurricanes, is located just a half-mile from the main “antenna farm” of transmitters for the city’s TV stations, creating potential for dropouts and interference that can plague wireless microphone systems serving referees. “The referee solution we had in place, although operational, lacked resiliency,” notes Bryan Lykins, the team’s newly hired director of broadcast operations. “This is why we engaged Shure Axient. Their technology is impressive and… View this story

Producer Jack Douglas notes that numerous Shure microphones were utilized in recording basic tracks for the 14th Aerosmith album, scheduled for release in April 2012. “I like to use different mics in different situations. But during almost four months of tracking, there were a lot of Shure microphones that never moved from their spots,” Douglas notes. “That includes classics like the SM57, but also some of the new mics like the KSM condensers and ribbons. We also used Shure headphones… View this story

Shure has introduced the A300SM, a new shock mount for the KSM353 ribbon microphone. More than 18 months in development, the mount provides exceptional isolation, securely mating to the microphone while complementing the simple metallic styling of the KSM353. The KSM353’s 1.5-pound weight and lack of a secure attachment point posed distinct challenges to achieving these goals. “Shock mounting a heavy microphone is a delicate balancing act,” explains Chad Wiggins, director of wired microphones at Shure.  “If the support straps… View this story
