The bottom line is that for any piece of production gear not sitting directly on the ground, steps must be in place to insure that it does not fall and injure someone (or worse). The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the U.S. agency that sets and enforces work…

West London based technical solutions company Entec Sound & Light continued its long working relationship with The Bootleg Beatles, the most successful and widely recognized tribute band to the legendary British musical group. Entec has provided technical production for the band since 1994 – testament in itself to the artist’s satisfaction with their production - in which time the band has regularly toured worldwide, playing to old and new generations of Beatles enthusiasts. Lighting Entec’s lighting crew chief Pete “Pepper”…

The Indiana Department of Labor today cited concert and event production company Mid-America Sound Corp. of Greenfield, IN with three safety violations in the collapse of an outdoor stage at the Indiana State Fair last August just prior to a show by the country band Sugarland. Seven people died and 58 were injured after the stage collapsed when a gust of wind toppled equipment that hung over the stage. CBS News also reports that Mid-America Sound Corp. has been issued…

Provided by Sweetwater. Q: A buddy and I recently went to a party in a large warehouse. For some reason (the “tech” said sound coverage) they hung the loudspeakers from the overhead beams. Now, the beams looked moderately strong and secure, but there wasn’t any mounting hardware on the enclosures, and they just hung the speakers with chain from the handles. My point is, I volunteer at a church and when we upgraded our PA a few years ago…

The crane carries a universal message of peace, only fitting as the more than 100,000 visitors who attended this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival were greeted by a giant representation of the elegant bird. Spanning its wings 150’ and standing a towering 45’ high, the white aluminum origami-style crane was one of the festival’s main attractions at an event known for its stunning visual art as much as its eclectic music. Created by Crimson Collective, a group of…

Britain’s Top of the Pops (TOTP) has been a BBC institution since 1964, broadcast weekly until 2006 and occasionally as one-off specials in the following years. The latest TOTP special, broadcast on BBC2 earlier in 2009, featured performances from Franz Ferdinand, Flo-Rida, Oasis, Take That, Tom Jones, James Morrison and more, live from BBC’s Studio 4, as part of this year’s Comic Relief charity fundraising special. Aside from the significance marked by convergence of these great artists, a TOTP revival…

The annual July 4th concert performance at the Ft. Wayne campus of Indiana/Purdue University featured four local acts capped off by nationally known country singer Jo Dee Messina and a spectacular finale featuring the Ft. Wayne Symphony Orchestra performing in tandem with choreographed fireworks. To accommodate all of the performers, Sticha Bros, who’d been contracted for the event by Northern Productions of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, set up a larger 60- x 60-foot stage next to a smaller 60- x…

VMB is pleased to announce the availability of Rainbow electro-acoustical prediction software for the company’s loudspeaker systems that provides horizontal as well as vertical modeling. Windows-based Rainbow allows simulation of complete systems, such as a main large format array complemented by a smaller delayed array and front-fills. Thus its library of loudspeaker systems includes not only the company’s self-powered line array modules with built-in inclinometer (LX-V8 and LX-F6 with accordion-folded ribbon HF driver), but also models from its PHASE or…
