Millennia Music & Media Systems have introduced the high-performance NSEQ-4 parametric equalizer. It is designed for the engineer that doesn’t need the versatility of having the company’s NSEQ-2’s Valve and Solid State circuitry in the same unit. “The NSEQ-4 combines the musicality of the NSEQ-2 with a substantial increase in soundstage,” comments engineer Bruce Leek. NSEQ-4 features: • World’s first (and only) all-discrete, true differential Class-A input buffer/amplifier. • Selectable balanced or unbalanced input. • Greatly improved 3rd generation FSA-03… View this story

Lab.gruppen has announced the appointment Jon Alkhagen as its new managing director. He brings a strong pedigree in high-end technology manufacturing to the role, which will see him lead both Lab.gruppen as well as its subsidiary Lake brand. Alkhagen joins the business at an important time of growth and development, with Lab.gruppen having recently launched the new 1U install-centric E Series amplifier platform, a departure from their success in high-power 2U touring amplification products, in addition to continuing to develop… View this story

TRUE Systems, distributed in the U.S. by Sennheiser USA, released the new pT2-500D precision dynamic preamplifier at the recent 131st AES Convention in New York. The pT2-500D expands the pT2-500 Series with a preamp that provides more gain, higher input impedance and a unique low frequency adjust control. The pT2-500D is an API 500 series compatible module, which incorporates the company’s Type 2 circuit design, provides exceptional sonic performance with ribbon and dynamic microphones, but also produces superior results with… View this story

Waves Audio has unveiled Bass Rider, an easy-to-use plugin that rides bass levels automatically. A companion to Waves’ popular Vocal Rider plugin, Bass Rider does not change the natural sound of bass. Optimized especially for the frequency range and envelope characteristics of bass instruments, Bass Rider covers all the “basses” -  DI, amplified, acoustic, synth, upright, etc. Unlike a compressor, Bass Rider works note by note, without disturbing their inner dynamics, so they sustain and decay naturally. Since Bass Rider… View this story

This article is provided by the ProAudioFiles.   Parallel compression refers to the technique of running a mult of a signal, compressing that mult, and then blending it in with the uncompressed signal. Some compressors also have a “mix” knob where you can blend the compressed and uncompressed signals. The benefits of parallel compression are many-fold, though there are a few pitfalls. Setting up a parallel compression chain can be daunting. Compression on it’s own can be a bit complex… View this story

AMS Neve has announced the new Neve 2264ALB, a recreation of the classic 2264A limiter/compressor in Lunchbox format. This is the third in AMS Neve’s Lunchbox-ready range and like the others – the 1073LB preamp and its counterpart, the 1073LBEQ – it uses authentic components and circuitry. It also embodies a couple of additional features requested by customers during the beta-testing phase. The original 2264A was released in 1974 and found a ready market both as a channel strip element… View this story

The Union Theater, an 1,100-seat multipurpose venue at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, hosts events that range from touring shows and student assemblies to concerts by the university’s choral, orchestral, and wind ensembles. During renovation, it was apparent that the hall’s physical acoustics and low roof presented a significant hurdle for classical music presentations that required an extended reverberation time. To support the diverse programming in the auditorium, acoustical consultant BAi LLC of Austin, Texas, recommended a Meyer… View this story

I have a new pet peeve:  well-intentioned (presumably) sound operators that EQ for gain-before-feedback rather than sound quality. In the last few weeks I’ve had some experiences where audio quality was a real issue, and no one seemed to know how to fix it. In all of these cases, the EQ (both on the channel strip and the master EQ) had been jacked all over the place in an attempt of keep a microphone from feeding back.  Some observations: 1)… View this story
