Two interesting developments have emerged recently under the heading of “white spaces”. First, if you recall, the FCC authorized the development and eventual marketing of “white space devices” that have now come to be known as TVBDs (TV Band Devices). However, the technical requirements for these devices are quite stringent; specifically, that they must sense other signals and take a lower priority in any given location than existing TV broadcasts and wireless microphones. Microsoft, working with researchers at Harvard University,…

“Comprehensive network connectivity planning is not a discussion that can happen in fifteen minutes on a tradeshow floor,” says Lee Minich, President of Lab X Technologies. “For instance, we have many companies approaching us who have already made the strategic decision to use Audio-Video Bridging (AVB) as their networking platform.” AVB is an umbrella term for new IEEE standards that make both wired and wireless Ethernet networks capable of reliable real-time delivery of audio and video. The critical questions for…

It’s hardly rare to hear the words “major motion picture event” applied to a summer film. Visually stunning or not, whether it’s the latest Hollywood biopic, all-star comedy or action adventure, the phrase is attached to big budget summer flicks so permanently and casually that we hardly take notice. In the case of director Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s environ-epic “Home”, however, that phrase actually rings true… Produced by Luc Besson and backed by PPR, a French holding company that specializes in some…

The Southern Baptist Convention, held in June at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, was served by a sound reinforcement system powered by 24 new Yamaha TX6n amplifiers The Yamaha amplifiers were purchased from Capital Design Group by the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) late last year, in preparation for this year’s event. The SBC-owned audio inventory is vast and can support crowds of up to about 15,000 in a convention center/exhibit hall/theater configuration. “We chose the new…
